Barbera and Dolcetto are grown everywhere in Piedmont where Nebbiolo isn't, and is seen as a more budget friendly alternative, with moderately high acid and lowish tannins, although expression varies by winemaker. Barbera d'Alba like this one tend towards power, structure and dark, brooding weight.
