Sterner was a well respected painter and influential printmaker who helped to promote the transition of lithography from it's late 19th century eclipse to it's 20th century revival as a primary and vital fine art medium
His fine color prints are distinguished by their beautiful color harmonies and painterly use of aquatint
a crisp impression in a warm brown ink of this popular subject

Green & Son white watercolor paper. There is an old mat line, foxing to sky and some fading of blue pigment, noticable under edges of mat. This large and dynamic precisionist watercolor of an iconic New York tugboat was previously exhibited by the American Watercolor Society. Included is a 1940's 50's typed exhibition label from Art for Industry New York held
