Gibson had all but stopped making banjos during WWII and did not re introduce the Mastertone series until 1954 when they started making them with the now famous "bowtie" inlay design and archtop tone rings. This banjo appears all original, and its hard to get a precise build date from the serial number "55383" on the back of the headtsock because Gibson did not always keep great records,
